Naomi Osaka And Other Celebrities Are Calling For Help For Haiti
Naomi Osaka And Other Celebrities Are Calling For Help For Haiti
Celebrities including tennis superstar Naomi Osaka are expressing their support for the Haitian people and calling on their followers to contribute to relief efforts.
Haiti — which is being drenched by a tropical storm — is still awaiting widespread assistance in the wake of the earthquake that killed more than 1,400 people and injured nearly 7,000.
Osaka, whose father is Haitian, has said she will give any prize money she wins at this week's Western & Southern Open tournament to support earthquake recovery efforts there.
Osaka is seeded second for this year's event in Cincinnati, and has a bye into the second round, notes The Washington Post. The women's singles champion will receive $255,220.
Osaka — who is ranked No. 2 in the world — has notably used her platform to advocate for causes like Black Lives Matter and mental health in the past.
And she's not the only public figure now rallying support for earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.
Rapper Wyclef Jean, who is from Haiti (and once ran for president there), posted a video to Instagram calling on people to "please do your part so we can help the country."

Meanwhile, rapper Cardi B tweeted that she has a "soft spot" for Haiti and its people, and offered her prayers.
And chef José Andrés's World Central Kitchen is on the ground in Haiti, preparing food at multiple kitchens in Port-au-Prince, Jeremie and Les Cayes to distribute to hospital staff and patients.
Chef Tim Kilcoyne, WCK's director of relief special ops, said in a video posted to Twitter on Monday, "Lots going on, our teams are here on the ground, we'll have more info to share later. But right now we're getting as many meals out to people that are in need as possible."
Writer Roxane Gay tweeted that she is donating to the microfinance institution Fonkoze as well as the nonprofit Hope for Haiti, and later shared a Google Doc listing other "trusted organizations" for emergency earthquake response.
Actor and Hamilton creator Lin Manuel-Miranda wrote that he is donating to Fonkoze and the global response organization CORE, and encouraged his social media followers to do the same.
Here's more on how you can help relief efforts in Haiti.

Here’s a Tim Tebow block that’s even worse than the laughable one that went viral

We’ve now seen plenty of proof that Tim Tebow is, indeed, a former quarterback who hasn’t played tight end in his entire career.
Well, we knew that. But maybe NFL fans were holding out hope that the ex-QB would pick up the position quickly.
As we saw in his Jacksonville Jaguars debut, Tebow delivered a goofy-looking block that everyone shared on Twitter and laughed at a lot at.
But it turned out that wasn’t even the worst Tebow block of the night (and again, this guy’s a first-time TE. It makes sense that this would be a weakness).
Check out this one that’s being shared now:
Oh no.
Per CBS’s Chris Towers, this was the next play after the one everyone made fun of. You’ll see No. 85 on the right basically get tossed out of the way as a Cleveland Browns pass-rusher gets in to make a play on running back Dare Ogunbowale:fonte ftw-usatoday

Former USWNT goalkeeper Hope Solo is making headlines for some recent claims she made — via Goal.com — regarding her former teammate Megan Rapinoe.
On All of Us: The U.S. Women’s Soccer Show, Solo had a lot to say about Rapinoe and her decision in 2016 to kneel during the national anthem, following what Colin Kaepernick — then of the San Francisco 49ers — had done just weeks earlier.
“I think the kneeling thing can be very divisive,” Solo said on the podcast. “I’ve seen Megan Rapinoe almost bully players into kneeling because she really wants to stand up for something in her particular way.”
But there’s something that isn’t sitting right with soccer fans, who noticed the timeline doesn’t exactly match up. Let’s dive in:
Solo's last game with USWNT was August 12
That was the quarterfinals loss to Sweden in the Rio Olympics. It was after that game that Solo called Sweden “a bunch of cowards.” It was not the first time Solo had said something controversial in her career.

Jacksonville Jaguars release QB-turned-TE Tim Tebow
look-video-
The Tim Tebow experiment in Jacksonville is over.
The Jaguars cut Tebow on Tuesday morning, the team announced.
The QB-turned-TE thanked the organization for the opportunity to try to reignite his NFL career.
"Thankful for the highs and even the lows, the opportunities, and the setbacks. I've never wanted to make decisions out of fear of failure and I'm grateful for the chance to have pursued a dream..." Tebow wrote on Twitter. "Thank you to the Jaguars organization and everyone who has supported me in this journey.
"And we know that...God works all things together for good. Romans 8:28."
After five years in baseball, Tebow attempted to return to the NFL, this time as a tight end, after beginning his football career as a quarterback back in 2010. The former first-round pick by Denver spent two years with the Broncos, one year with the New York Jets, and offseason stints with the New England Patriots (2013) and Philadelphia Eagles (2015).
Urban Meyer decided to give his former college QB a shot to make the Jags roster as a TE.
The position change for the 34-year-old proved to be too much to overcome.
"It's tough," Meyer told reporters Tuesday. "We knew that was an uphill battle for Tim. Players loved him. Locker room loved him. But it was the right thing."
Tebow spent training camp and the first preseason game buried deep on the Jags' tight end depth chart. He played 15 offensive snaps during Saturday's game seeing just one target with no catches. The former QB predictably struggled with the blocking aspect of the position, with clips of a couple of his whiffs going viral over the weekend.
Tebow's struggles underscore the difficulty that comes with any player attempting to learn and master a new position at the NFL level in short order. vWith the Jags needing to make cuts before Tuesday afternoon's deadline to get to 85 players on the roster, Tebow didn't make it past the first phase of the roster-trimming process.
From the onset, the Tebow experiment was a fascinating trial that was always going to be a long shot. It ended before the second preseason game.
Along with cutting Tebow, the Jags also announced they waived CB DJ Daniel, WR Josh Imatorbhebhe (injury designation), WR Tim Jones (injury designation) and placed DT Daniel Ross on injured reserve.
