Antonovsky Bridge Near Kherson Collapses, Putin’s Missiles Kill 7 In Myk...
Ukraine’s Armed Forces have appeared to reached the centre of the Kherson city after Russia’s withdrawal from the region. A member of the Kherson regional council said that almost all of the city is under the control of Ukrainian forces. Russia’s defence ministry claimed it has completed the withdrawal of troops from the western bank of the Dnipro River. Volodymyr Zelensky said that he does not believe in the prospect of peace negotiations with Russia. Ukraine’s Presidential Adviser Andriy Yermak said 45 Ukrainian soldiers have been freed in a prisoner exchange with Russia. The Antonovsky Bridge over the Dnipro river has collapsed, as per Ukraine’s public broadcaster. A Russian strike has allegedly killed seven people in the city of Mykolaiv. Ukrainian forces claim they shot down a Russian Ka-52 helicopter and hit two control points in the past 24 hours. Wagner Group founder Yevgeny Prigozhin claims that his military organisation is training civilians in Russia’s border regions.

The Ukrainian air defence arsenal is set to get a boost, this time with US-made Avenger systems. The Biden administration will send Ukraine four Avenger air defence systems as part of its latest $400 million weapons package. The new tranche from the US also includes additional HAWK surface-to-air missiles, Humvees and other ammunition and small arms.
Apart from US-supplied Avengers, Kyiv is also expected to receive the Italian and French made SAMP/T air defence batteries. SAMP/T will reportedly be a part of Italy’s sixth arms package to Ukraine, expected to be delivered in the new few weeks
In a recent interview to an Italian publication, Ukrainian President Zelensky said that he has specifically asked Rome to send air defence capabilities.

Multiple reports suggest a heavy ongoing battle in Snihurivka, a strategic town that would open the road for Ukrainian forces towards Kherson. Earlier, reports said that Ukrainian forces have partly liberated Snihurivka. However, RIA Novosti reports that Kremlin forces have repelled the assault. This comes amid the intense fighting raging between Russia and Ukraine in the eastern Donetsk region. Putin has long eyed Kherson, critical to the entire southern region that was used by Ukraine as a base to target key Russian supply routes. The Kherson region borders Crimea and provides Moscow with a land bridge to the Black Sea peninsula that it seized from Kyiv in 2014. Meanwhile, the battle of Kherson is in full swing.
